Support for Homeless Sight Impaired & Limbless Service Personnel

In the 2015 Aug/Sept issue of the LION magazine, on page 14, there is an article highlighting the Council approved Special Appeal for Blind Veterans UK and Blesma – The Limbless Veterans Association - to expand the rehabilitation facilities at the Blind Veterans UK Llandudno Centre.

Please ask your fellow Lions to consider, if you have not already done so, making a donation to this Appeal (approved Appeal Letter can be downloaded via the link above). This is to complete the building and re-furbishment work which will then be used to provide specific rehabilitation training for our current and ex-service personnel facing homelessness as a result of their lives having been immeasurably altered, indeed shattered, whilst they were protecting our safety. Do let us show our appreciation for their sacrifices by fulfilling our goal of raising the target amount of £100,000 so that Lions Clubs of the British Isles and Ireland can continue to be permanently associated with a major state-of-the-art Rehabilitation Centre, providing essential services for our disabled current and ex-service men and women.

At the launch of the Centennial Projects at this year’s Multiple District Convention, Lion Phil Nathan specifically asked Lions Clubs to give their support to this major Council approved Appeal as a joint acknowledgment of Blind Veterans UKs Centenary in 2015 and Lions Clubs International upcoming Centenary in 2017. As a further acknowledgement of Lions Clubs support it is intended to name the linking glass Entrance Foyer and Central Communal Area in honour of Lions Clubs, just as the two day rooms in the main Blind Veterans UK Centre at Llandudno are named in honour of Lions Melvin Jones and Bert Mason respectively - a fitting legacy for the partnership of our two organisations and the joint Centenary celebrations.

Lion Evan Jones, the Liaison Officer for our Partnership with Blind Veterans UK wishes to thank all those Clubs who have already sent donations and pledges in support of the Appeal.

Donations should be sent to your District Treasurer endorsed MD 105 Special Appeal BVUK and BLESMA
