At the 50th Anniversary of the Young Ambassador finals on the 16-18 February 2024
Young Ambassador Winner
Liliana Noor sponsored by Harrow and Pinner Lions Club from District 105A won the Lions Young Ambassador Competition.
Liliana aged 15, attends Mulberry School for Girls and is a member of the Tower Hamlets Youth Council. She was awarded a community hero award by the local Council for her voluntary endeavours.
Liliana helped organise a student wall of peace messages, an anti-violence event and a student-led fayre raising £850 for UNICEF with funds providing life-saving support for children and their families in Ukraine and others conflict-affected countries.
Enthusiastic about supporting the rights of migrants her participation in the first ever Bengali concert held at the University of Oxford, and meetings at the Houses of Parliament and in Maastricht as a member of the Model United Nations conference gave her the opportunity to discuss this matter with others from around the world.
Shipshape Award Winner
Harley-Jai Philips sponsored by Bolton Lions Club from District CN won the Shipshape Award.
Over the past 2 ½ years Harley-Jai has enjoyed volunteering with ‘Believe Achieve,’ undertaking many different activities involving the community with the most recent being Believe Achiever’s 2 year Anniversary party which he organised and hosted with the Youth Advisory Group (which he leads on). The group opened the centre to the public and numerous organisations to give them the opportunity to come and network with the team and see the activities on offer.
Harley-Jai has been involved in numerous community action events and community support groups for young people and adults seeking support through their services. Last year, he had a substantial role in distributing 13,034 food parcels to support families across the North West, equating to around 36 food parcels delivered each night.
Recently, he organised and coordinated a fundraising night which raised £455. They had many big supporters, such as JD Sports, PUMA, Nandos and Greater Manchester Police.
Young Ambassadors Competition recognises young people volunteering in their local communities.
Each of the finalist receives a £500 bursary to be used for welfare work on their chosen project, or for training to help them in this work. The overall winner becomes the Young Ambassador for Lions Clubs International of the British Isles. They are presented with a further £1,000, a trophy, the opportunity during the year to promote their project, and invited to take part in a European grand final.
