NEW FOR THIS YEAR – WE’RE ALSO LOOKING FOR SHORT, GOOD QUALITY VIDEO FOOTAGE (entries should last no longer than 4 minutes).
In 2015, the photography competition focus is on recognising the highest quality of images that help to tell the Lions story. You may submit any images taken during 2014 or 2015.
Entrants may submit up to 3 photographs in total, that fall into one or more of the following four categories:
- Reportage – telling a story about a Lions event, project, programme or activity
- Fun – showing the enjoyment that Lions have in their local communities
- Service – demonstrating the excellent work that Lions do in their local communities
- Spirit – illustrating what Lions is all about
Winners will be selected for each of these categories – as well as the overall best image. A special award will be presented for the best image by an entrant aged under 16.
We have also introduced a professional photographer category this year – so please let your local press or other contacts know of the competition.
Finally, an award will be made for the best video – entered in any of the above four categories (maximum 4 minutes in length).
Entries are impartially judged by professionals who are looking for: originality, image quality, technical ability and composition, inclusion of the Lions logo and representation of the spirit of Lionism.
We encourage creativity and imagination in identifying relevant images that capture the work of Lions in raising money, delivering services or projects, planning or undertaking activities and/or having fun.
Note: Please do not enter any cheque presentations or line-ups of individuals as these will not be successful. Also all images must be in focus, interesting, engaging and provoke a response.
Please email: firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any further questions regarding the competition – or call 01204 435340.
It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that authorisation has been obtained for any submitted photograph or video. Lions Club members can download and print an pdf authorisation form via this link.
2014 Photography Competition – winning entries
Outstanding images from the first ever Lions Clubs International British Isles & Ireland photography competition were featured in the Lions in Your Community report, as well as a mini-movie created for the Lions Europa Forum. The winning entry (see below) was also featured in the Lions Clubs International magazine, gaining global recognition.
Many of the images can be found in the online photo library where they are available to help clubs promote who Lions are and what we do, with local communities, the media and partnering organisations.
These winning entries from the first ever Lions Clubs International British Isles & Ireland photgraphy competition are each excellent examples of reportage – telling a story about a Lions event, project, programme or activity.
Other images from the Lions in the Community report are great examples of the other three categories:
