Keynsham & District Lions Club.
Past District Governor Lion Harry Smith (MJF), born 1939, joined Keynsham Lions Club in March 1999 in order to continue his work in the community upon retirement from local government.
He quickly became Club President in 2002 and was to take that role on a further four occasions through his Lion career. As Zone Chairman in 2009 he embarked on the long route to become 105W District Governor in July 2012, a year when he and Ruth put themselves forward on every possible occasion to better the name of the organisation within MD105 and beyond.
Harry continued to enjoy his Lionism holding Keynsham & District Club Director posts and was District Sight Officer until he was appointed a three year term as 105W LCIF Officer.
He was always up for taking on new challenges and first to put his name down for Christmas collections, Car Boots or collecting in the High Street for disaster relief. No Quiz Night was complete without Harry asking the questions and Ruth helping with the buffet.
Clouds gathered earlier this year when Harry was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer but he still helped at Saltford Festival on Sunday 16 June. Harry died Friday afternoon 28th June 2019 at home with Ruth, son Matthew and daughter Lucy by his bedside.
Our deepest sympathy to Ruth and the whole family while we celebrate Harry’s life and the true friendship he brought to the Club and to the District.
